Peter Chester founded Garage Doors Lancashire after spending his early years at sea with the Merchant Navy, and the Company began as a small outfit in Wigan, and has now grown to a large family business employing 28 people. During the past 40 years the Company has majored in Hormann doors being the first fitting company to do so, and have continued the relationship to the present day.
The Company has its showroom and offices in Bamber Bridge, and is a real family affair with Peter and his three daughters all working in the firm. Originally the Company fitted doors locally for both private and trade customers. As recommendation passed from one customer to another, the company now also works for a number of large developers including Redrow Homes, Miller Homes, Bellway and Morris.

Since the incorporation in 2008 of the AGDS and the Door and Hardware Federation the Company has remained at the forefront of the industry with Julie taking on the role of chair in the Garage Door Installer Group until June 2019.
