85% of european businesses are family ones,and following the demise of HJ Berry in Chipping, BBC Radio Lancashire has been reporting on how other local family businesses are managing in the recession. Peter and Julie were invited into the studio to take part in the Graham Liver Breakfast show on Thursday 11th February. For Julie, this is her second time on Radio, having been involved in debate about garage sizes on the Jeremy Vine Show on Radio 2. We think she's had her two minutes of fame now !

Patent Pending

Please view our latest invention. In an attempt to clear the snow which had fallen in our yard, one of our employees fastened a Hormann steel pallet end to a peice of wood. Well done Chris.

Renewal of CHAS certification

We have recently been re-accredited by CHAS - The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme. CHAS is established as the market leader for health and safety pre-qualification in the UK. It is a non-commercial scheme available to suppliers and to organisations looking for suitably competent suppliers.

Aimee 1995-2009 The end of an Era

Our regular customers will know a dog has always been part of our team - and older customers will remember Tramp, the black labrador, Ghyll, the friendly rottweiler,Oscar, the weimaraner, and recently, Aimee, the springer spaniel. Unfortunately Amy suffered a stroke last weekend, and died, but at 14 had led a full and happy life.

Paul reaches 25 years service

Pedal it Pink !

Beckie recently took part in the Pedal it Pink event in Sefton Park on behalf of Breast Cancer Care. Here she is, on her last lap of six completing a full Marathon distance. The event, which was started by Victoria Pendleton, was blessed with lovely weather.

Sheilagh Looks Forward to Retirement

After 30 years or so of working full time, Sheilagh has retired from the Company. She is looking forward to spending her time enjoying her many hobbies - and perhaps even learning some new ones. Dry stone walling has been mentioned !

SPEEDY GONZALES!

Garage Doors (Lancs) have won some pretty special awards in the past including the International Door Dealer of the Year 2003, but recently two of their fitters were officially pronounced as ‘Speedy Gonzales’ by Hormann UK.

This award was presented by Hormann, who are Europe’s largest garage door manufacturer, for the fitters ability to install five double sized garage doors in a day.

THE OPEN DAY COMPETITION WINNERS!

Following an eventful open day and family fun day on 11th October, we are pleased to announce the winners of our competitions. Mr. Haworth, of Chorley was the lucky winner of a Hormann Supramatic electric operator. The Treasure Hunt Winner was Cameron Alder ,who won a family cinema ticket. The ‘Colour an Audi TT competition’ was won by Laura Hazeldine, who won an Audi Goody bag and teddy bear.

We will be continuing some of the open day special offers until 31st December.

CHESTER ZOO

We have recently completed an installation for Chester Zoo. The Management of the Zoo were very impressed with the way the doors worked and looked. The Flamingo's were just pleased that they would be nice and warm over the winter !

DOOR FIXERS GET US OUT OF A JAM

Trapped cars and disappointed grandchildren added to the mayhem Sylvia and Peter Watson, from Preston, Lancashire, had to deal with after their garage door came down and jammed.

"The Cars were stuck inside and we could not take our grandchildren out as promised," says Peter, whose msiery worsened when he learned that the door's supplier was no longer in business.

But he phoned local company, Garage Doors Northern, for help. "And their staff certainly did" says Peter.

The firm arranged for a fitter to call and within a few hours the Watson family was back on the road. " Their prompt professionalism makes them certainly worthy of recommendation" says Peter.
